The instructor for a computer course wanted to include an interactive self-assessment tool for the students of her online course. The tool enables students to assess their computer setup in terms of virus protection and network security. Each section of the tool has a series of check boxes, and a numerical value is attached to each check box. This value appears to the right of the checked item, and the cumulative score appears at the bottom of the screen. The cumulative score for the screen is then entered into the overall score once a student presses the button in the lower-right corner of the screen to move on to the next screen of the assessment. The final score is displayed on the second-to-the-last screen along with a key to the scoring system. The last screen of the tool includes a scoring breakdown, and the student has an opportunity to print their final score.
