My job at UWEX entailed taking new and existing correspondence study courses and investigating ways to develop them into online courses. This was back in 1995-97 when the whole concept of taking a course via the Internet was very, very new. Economics 101 was one of several courses I worked on. Because people were so new to the online experience at that time, detailed instructions had to be included within the text so that students (and instructors) could learn to navigate through the courses. The course features a keyword window that pops up when a user comes across new vocabulary within the reading, as well as a comprehensive glossary. Eventually, the department shifted their online course development to the Lotus Notes platform, and more of my time was spent learning how to implement custom graphics within the Lotus Notes classroom format.
