When I worked at Internet Marketing Services, one of our clients was the owner of a family of local radio stations. I designed three of their five sites.
The Magic 98 project was a redesign of an existing site. The new site featured a left-hand navigation panel that expands to display the secondary links within a section when the section's navigation link is clicked.
On the secondary pages, the navigation bar expands to show the contents of the section the user is currently visiting. For example, in the second screenshot on the left, the Personalities is expanded to show all of the pages within that section.
The secondary links were done as text items since many of the links changed from week to week, depending on the events and promotions that were occurring. Some linked to standalone pages, while others (usually the regularly reoccurring items) linked to targets within the page they were located on.
