One of the real pleasures of
Madison is the chance to fully experience the
changing seasons. Madison's parks offer beauty
and relaxation every day of the year. There are
over 150 parks and play areas in the Madison
area. The University of Wisconsin Arboretum is
open year-round to visitors wishing to
contemplate and explore its 1,200 acres of
natural forests, prairie and orchard, located
within the city. A natural highlight of spring in
Madison is the blooming of over 250 varieties of
lilacs covering the trails of the Arboretum.
Summer days can be spent picnicking, boating and
swimming, and the Vilas Park Zoo is a great
medium-sized zoo near Lake Wingra that is home to
hundreds of exotic animals. Vilas Park Zoo (608)
