| Madison is a sports-lover's
paradise, for players and fans alike. The
School-Community Recreation Department offers
programs in sports for all ages and
abilities--basketball, soccer, hockey,
volleyball, baseball, softball--over 1,000 teams!
Several organizations also hold competitions in
running, biking and canoe racing throughout the
Greater Madison area. Madison's sports fans are
an enthusiastic and loyal crowd, consistently
supporting the various competitions. Dedicated
"Badger" athletes at the UW-Madison
compete in a variety of sports in addition to its
heavily-supported Big Ten football team and its
nationally-recognized hockey team. Winter sports
are not neglected in Madison. Speed skating and
ski-jumping events are held throughout the winter
months. On the professional front,
Madison is now represented in the Colonial Hockey
League by the Madison Monsters, and the Madison
Black Wolf, and expansion baseball franchise in
the Northern League, is drawing crowds to Warner
Park.
