A Red
Kangaroo Has Hopped Into the Zoo
Yeltsin,
a male, met the public July 23, and is sharing an exhibit with the zoo's
two female kangaroos. He has come to us come from the Indianapolis Zoo,
where he was born Aug. 18, 1996.
Zoo officials
hope that Yeltsin will soon breed with the two female Red Kangaroos, who
are actually gray in color, and are called "gray flyers" for
their color and speed. One of the females was born at the Henry Vilas
Zoo, while the other came from Australia.
Red Kangaroos
are native to Australia, where they live throughout the inland plains.
Kangaroos are the largest living marsupials.
