STATION OVERVIEW WTDY went on-the-air in 1948. The station's original call letters were WISC (now the call letters of a local TV station) and were later changed to WISM. For years, WISM was the popular Top 40 radio station in Madison. In the mid-1980's, the WTDY call letters were adopted. They originally stood for "Today Radio"...a format that featured a mix of music, news, sports and weather. A few years later, WTDY evolved into a full-time talk station and our name became "News/Talk 1480." A new era in Wisconsin radio began on June 29, 1998, as WTDY moved to 1670 AM. By moving to 1670 AM, WTDY increased its power and coverage -- allowing all southern Wisconsin radio listeners to hear their favorite talk hosts. With the switch to the new frequency and our commitment to today's hottest talk, our name is now "Today's Talk 1670." Many of the personalities have been on WTDY since the inception of our talk format. Rush Limbaugh, Tim Morrissey, Dr. Dean Edell and Bob Brinker have all been on the station for years. It is this longevity and stability that makes our station a favorite among Madison listeners. WTDY's commitment to news is second to none. Our six-person news staff covers local news. We utilize the resources of ABC News and the Associated Press for national and world news. In addition, WTDY is the flagship station of the Wisconsin Radio Network. WRN provides news, sports and public affairs programming via satellite to 50 stations throughout the Badger State. Listeners count on us for dependable weather. The meteorologists at WISC-TV 3 provide weather updates throughout the day. WTDY transmits a non-directional signal 24-hours a day at a power of 10,000 watts by day and 1,000 watts at night. WTDY was the first full-time AM stereo station in Wisconsin.
